Freedom and a Fence.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Psalm 1:1-4
“Great peace have they which love Your Law: and nothing shall offend them.” Psalm 119:165.
Imagine if you had a house that backed up to a major highway. And in your back yard was a fence that separated the busy street from your quiet yard. You have complete freedom and peace in that yard. You feel safe with the fence there, and you even let your children play alone in the yard. But, if you take that fence away there would be no protection, and you would feel no peace or freedom at all from the busy street.
That's kinda like the law of the Lord. Freedom and peace need boundaries. God's law brings us peace....It may seem as though sometimes it takes away pleasures, or that it is a burden to carry out. But not at all. (And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Rom. 8:28)
when we are children of God (those who love Him) His law works not only for our good (peace, freedom, rest) but it makes much of His name!
Flee sexual immortality - (it saves marriages, prevents disease, brings glory to His name in a immoral culture, etc. etc.)
you shall have no other gods before me. - (again. living a life serving anything else will never satisfy. For what can other than God? And living for Him alone exalts His name among the nations!)
you shall not covet your neighbor's house,wife,ox,servant...(when we covet...we put our trust in other things instead of God and Him being our provider...it also could give us means to steal, lie, or even murder!...)
All this to say...God is for us...His law is for us..He restores my soul, and He guides me in the paths of righteousness. It is for His names sake!

fruits of the spirit
Just thinking singing as a form of worship today...
Psalm 95:6-7
Psalm 95:6-7
(6) O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!
(7) For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
O that today you would listen to his voice!
Rom 14:11 "For it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.""
Psalm 47:1 "Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy."
Psalm 71:23 "My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have rescued."
Psalm 81:1 "Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob."
One of the big questions that always seems to occur in music ministry is what are people supposed to look like when singing? Should they raise their hands? Should they sing loud? Should they close their eyes? And well I just don't know. According to these scriptures singing aloud, clapping your hands and bowing a knee are all things that are good and acceptable. One thing that seems to be always present is that people are moved by God. Now music is not worship!!!... I pray that everyday we would sing aloud to God our strength...bow our knee and confess Him as Lord...In our families, in our homes, in our cars, and we would sing aloud with everything we do. As far as what it looks like in a music setting I know what a joy it can be to sing the truths and the promises of Who God is back to Him... Just as the Holy spirit pulls on a person and does not let Him dwell in a life of repeated sin... the Holy Spirit causes us to respond (not in any particular way) but respond...Maybe with a sweet spirit of praise...maybe with a raised hand and a shout...maybe with brokenness... When you spend time in prayer, and in God's word viewing His promises and His character I believe that one can't help but be moved to make much of Him... Again singing is not worship. But what a delight it is to come and sing His praises when we reflect on the truths in His word...and total grace He has given us.
